The charity of the month for August 2017 is:

The Atlanta Music Project Mission and History

Founded in 2010, the Atlanta Music Project provides intensive, tuition-free music education for underserved youth right in their neighborhood.

The Atlanta Music Project believes the pursuit of musical excellence leads to the development of confidence, creativity and ambition, thus sparking positive social change in the individuals and the communities we serve.

Mission Statement

“To inspire social change by providing Atlanta’s underserved youth the opportunity to learn and perform music in orchestras and choirs.”

The Atlanta Music Project will serve 200 students weekly through our after-school programs and the AMP Academy, our private lesson program. All AMP programs are rigorous with classes taking place up to four days per week, for two hours each day. As we believe all children are musical, we do not hold entrance auditions or require students to have any musical experience. The only thing required for a student to be in AMP: commitment to attending all classes. The Atlanta Music Project provides for each of its students: an instrument, classes, world-class Teaching Artists and numerous performance opportunities. AMP classes include orchestra, choir, musicianship, ear training, music theory, African drum and dance and group lessons in the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, voice, piano and guitar. As AMP and AMPlify expand, we will offer oboe, bassoon, french horn, tuba, orchestral percussion, and electric bass.
